Wayne Crossland, Land and Resource Coordinator, with the Caribou Recovery Program will provide a virtual presentation about the Ungulate Winter Range and Wildlife Habitat Area proposals for Southern Mountain Caribou in the Mackenzie Natural Resource District (UWR u-7-001 and WHA 7-018). Attached is a copy of the letters received and both overview maps of the proposal areas. Copies of the both proposal documentation listed can be downloaded from the Blue Box link within the letters, but have also been printed and included in the Centre Table File for Council's review. The deadline for the District to provide comment has been extended to May 2, 2025.

  • THAT the Correspondence listed on the Agenda be received.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) is asking if the District of Mackenzie wishes to partner with them to fund a regional NextGen 911 (NG911) Civic Addressing project in whole or in part by applying for a grant through UBCM’s Next Generation 911 Funding Program. If the District wishes to participate, the RDFFG would be looking for the following resolution:


THAT Council approves the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George to act as the primary applicant to apply for, receive, and manage UBCM Next Generation 911 Application-based Funding of up to $100,000 on behalf of the District of Mackenzie in support of a NextGen 911 Civic Addressing regional project application.

Dan Boulianne, General Manager, McLeod Lake Mackenzie Community Forest, is requesting a letter of support for their ongoing expansion efforts. 

Michelle Bobrel, President, Mackenzie Community Arts Council, is asking Mayor and Council to waive building permit fees to ensure the success of Phase Two of Project Caribou. 

The Mackenzie Nature Observatory is requesting Mayor and Council's approval for an in-kind grant for a Special Project at the Mugaha Marsh Banding Station. They are asking for the following:

  • Use of the Municipal Campground or Recreation Centre showers for banders and volunteers
  • Use of designated dumpsters for garbage and recycling
  • Grading of the road to Mugaha Marsh once or twice during the operating season.

The approved costs for the 2024 operating season were $1,400 for shower use, and $3,2295.17 for grading the road twice.

Is there anything Council wishes to address in the "For Consideration" or "Centre Table File" correspondence? 

Mayor Simon Yu, City of Prince George, has shared three resolution items the City of Prince George has submitted to the annual NCLGA convention. 

Information on recent improvements to BC Housing’s Rental Assistance Program (RAP) and Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program. 

CN has provided an update on upcoming vegetation management activities in your area, scheduled to take place between April and October 2025. You can find a regularly updated schedule at www.cn.ca/vegetation.

The Ministry of Health is encouraging publicly funded organizations to make naloxone available and to equip staff with the training to recognize and respond to suspected drug poisoning. To this end, the Ministry is implementing a one-time no-cost initiative to distribute nasal naloxone kits to publicly funded organizations where a toxic drug event may occur.

The Village of Daajing Giids is sharing  the attached letter from David Hume the Assistant Deputy Minister & Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch as they believe it is important to ensure that all municipal leaders are informed about this ongoing dialogue and are able to consider the implications and opportunities for your municipality.
The letter arose from the Village of Daajing Giids’ 2023 Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) advocacy efforts with regard to Cannabis Taxation Revenue sharing with municipalities.

  • THAT Council awards the Housing Needs Report Update and Official Community Plan Amendment project to L&M Engineering in the amount of $49,700 plus GST;

    AND THAT the Chief Administrative Officer be authorized to execute the contract and any related documentation.

  • THAT Council awards the 2025 Fuel Mitigation Project Forest Professional Work to Strategic Natural Resources in the amount of $31,561.89 plus GST;

    AND THAT the Chief Administrative Officer be authorized to execute the contract and any related documentation.

  • THAT Council approves the grant application to the BCAA Outreach Program through FireSmart BC for up to $11,000 plus GST;

    AND THAT the Chief Administrative Officer be authorized to execute the contract and any related documentation.
