CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:15 PM.

Mayor Atkinson acknowledged the land on which we gather is within the traditional territory of the Tse’khene People of the McLeod Lake Indian Band.

The minutes of the Special Meeting held on August 28, 2023 were adopted as presented.

The minutes of the Committee of the Whole Meeting held on August 28, 2023 were adopted as presented.

The minutes of the Regular Meeting held on August 28, 2023 were adopted as presented.

The minutes of the Special Meeting held on September 6, 2023 were adopted as presented.

Shannon Bezo, Regional Principal at the College of New Caledonia, thanked Mayor and Council for the letter of support provided to their grant application to NDIT for funding towards upgrades to the new event space and notified that they were successful in receiving the grant from NDIT. 

Mitch Binichakis (Mortensen) expressed his concerns regarding the containment of commercial garbage in Mackenzie to Mayor and Council.

Council received a letter from resident, Dominique Symbalisty, requesting that as a community we find a way to recognize the displacement and lives lost to the “scattering of man". Mayor Atkinson agreed to look into this request and bring back further information for discussion with Council.

    THAT Council supports the District’s application to the South Peace Mackenzie Trust (SPMTrust) Program for the Arena Slab and Energy Upgrades Project;

    AND THAT the Chief Administrative Officer be authorized to execute the grant application, and if the application is successful, any related documentation.

Dominique Symbalisty, resident, asked if we still have a Bear Committee in Mackenzie? Mayor Atkinson replied that the committee still exists but a majority of the members have moved away, and the Committee is currently inactive. Ms. Symbalisty asked if she could connect with Mayor Atkinson about starting up the committee again. Mayor Atkinson replied absolutely. 

Janice Nelson, Publisher of the Macktown Buzzette, asked why agenda item 8.3 was pulled from the agenda? Mayor Atkinson replied that after the vendor visited the airport, they determined that they do not have the proper equipment to complete the work at the airport.
